Its me! Ali! Back from Dream Crafter to share another Oh So Amazing sewing tutorial with you. 🙂
My babies are pukers. No for reals. You know when moms say their babies spit up a lot? Yeah…picture that times ten. In fact, my boys had trouble gaining weight because most of what went down, came back up. And I mean, projectile vomiting.
Ew. (Said in the voice of Jimmy Fallon)
It sort of sucks having a babe that pukes all the time. When people ask to hold my babies I always hand them over with a warning label and two burp rags. They WILL spit up on you. Sorry. That is just life.
So what is a girl to do besides have extra absorbent burp cloths?! I have tried using almost every material to make a burp cloth (including layering 8 layers of terry cloth) and this is by far the most efficient one. Not to mention they take like ten minutes to sew.
-A 10 pack (or 6 pack) of pre-fold diaper inserts (they are also sometimes called tri-fold). I got mine at Walmart. A pack of 10 for about 12 dollars.
-Flannel fabric of your choosing I got 1/2 yard but you might need a little more if you buy the 10 pack.
The good news is, if you can sew a straight…or semi straight line, you can sew these.
Start by measuring the middle fold of the diaper and cutting your flannel to fit in that space.
Take your flannel and ironing the edges so they tuck under for about an 1/8 of an inch seam all the way around.
Top stitch around the rectangle to attach it to your diaper. Boom! Thats it! It took me less than 2 hours to make 10 of these babies. Plus I made a few with some more colorful fabric.
I just LOVE black and white, but it is for a baby after all. 🙂 Maybe throw in a little color if your feeling crazy.
Conversation with my 2 year old while I was sewing these:
W: Are those for our baby to wear?
Me: They aren’t clothes, they are to wipe up his puke after he eats.
W: Oh ok. But I’m not going to wipe it for him. I’m a big boy and I puke in the potty.
Me: Yeah buddy. I know… I know.
Thanks for joining me for another boring sewing tutorial!
