I am so excited to be here today sharing one of my favorite cookie recipes. I’m Kara and I have a little food blog called Parley’s Lemons. It’s a place for me to get creative and share my love for cooking healthy simple meals and treats.
I wouldn’t exactly call this recipe healthy. But hey, they’re oreo cookies so they don’t count. Right?
My aunt used to make these cookies and I still remember them being my favorite growing up. The recipe is simple, as it calls for boxed chocolate cake mix. It can be made even easier by using store bought cream cheese frosting too. They come together quickly and are a total crowd pleaser. Ask my sixth grade class. Back in the day that’s how I used to make friends 😉
I’m not even lying a little bit when I say these are MUCH better than store bought cookies. They are soft and perfectly sweet; also fun to make. Kids would have a blast rolling up the dough and squishing the cookies together with frosting once they are baked.
Valentines Day is right around the corner and I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t enjoy these as a gift. That was definitely a hint hint if you couldn’t tell.

Oreo Cookies || makes about two dozen cookies, if you make them mini sized || recipe is from my aunt Lori
- 2 boxes of chocolate cake mix
- 4 eggs
- 2/3 cup oil
For the Frosting:
Feel free to use a store bought cream cheese frosting if you’d like. I used this recipe here and it turned out amazing (You’ll need to refrigerate them if using homemade frosting. Only if you don’t eat them all within an hour. Like I possibly did.)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat the eggs and oil together with a mixer for about 60 seconds. Add the chocolate cake mix and combine until a thick dough is formed. I added a tbs of water at a time until I got the the right consistency. (If you have a standing mixer use a dough hook, it makes the job a lot easier. I’ve made these without one and you do have to use your hands to mix it well enough)
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll the dough into balls (I did mine the size of a golf ball) and place on sheets. Press down lightly and bake for 8 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool completely then spread with cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!
