1. Feel, I want you to know how important it is to feel each emotion you have. Don’t push them down, hide them or be ashamed of them. If you’re happy, be happy–share it with the world. If you’re sad, cry, cry it out because sometimes tears are just necessary. When you get angry, know that it’s okay to be angry, you can feel upset. Feel each emotion and experience it, then get ready to face the next joy or challenge in your life. Life is beautiful and short and each and every experience and emotion you have makes you stronger.
2. Kill with kindness, this is something your dear mother struggled with for years. Not necessarily being mean, but letting go. Be kind to everyone, you don’t know their story, just like they won’t know yours. Kindness is what makes the world go round and truly a key to happiness. If someone is mean, don’t blame them or stoop to their level, don’t try to get even, love them, embrace them and the hardest part–forgive them.
3. Serve, serve others, serve God and serve your family. Not in the way of serving like you would think a servant. But help, do charity, love and embrace. The biggest thing I ever learned from your Great Grandma and Grandma was to be compassionate. Hold the door open, help the elderly lady load her groceries in the car, give that person who has had a really hard day a hug, show love to everyone around you. And the biggest thing, smile-a smile goes a long way my dear for both you and others.
4. Be you, don’t ever change yourself, don’t ever try to “fit in”. Be unique, and be you. When you come across what you may think is the “cool group” in school, remember that it’s not necessary to be in that group, especially if it’s going to change who you are. People do and will always love you for who you are. Do what makes you happy, seriously whatever makes your heart happy and brings you joy. If you like to paint, paint, if you like to sing, sing your heart out–just bask in whatever it is that brings your little heart joy.
5. Don’t be afraid to change your mind. Don’t let someone or something pressure you. Do you and don’t be afraid to change your mind, even if it’s what you thought you wanted to do. Nothing in life can’t be changed. If you want to be an actress one day and a doctor the next–guess what my sweet girl, that’s a-okay. Richard Bach said, “You are always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past”.
6. You are loved and you’re beautiful. This is something you should always remember, especially in your weakest moments. You have an entire support system right behind you, rallying for you, pushing you to do your best, to be happy. You’re gorgeous, inside and out and if anyone tells you differently, you push that thought right out of your mind and keeping pushing forward being confident in YOU. Don’t you dare forget that. You are loved. You are gorgeous. You are unstoppable.
