So happy to say that this post will be featured on Positively Oakes a great website for all your Motherhood needs!
Tactile learning is important for stimulation for infants, and toddlers it encourages them to search ,explore, and learn. This little tactile book is so simple and easy to make for your little one with any scrap fabric you have laying around. I love the use of different scraps from left- over fabric I have because it is great for tactile learning.
You can make this book two different ways, Sewn or Hot Glued.
Here’s What You Need:
- Two 8 1/2 x 11 felt pieces for the pages
- lots of different scrap fabric
- Hot glue and glue gun, or sewing machine
- Scissors to cut fabric
- Buttons for dimension (make sure these are secured well could be a choking hazard)
Here’s How You Make the Book:
*You can print off my simple templates if you are not good at free hand drawing. Or use some shapes of your own.
- Fold your Outside layer felt piece for your book in half long ways then in half the other way so it looks like a little book
- Cut off the bottom half of the book so you have half the piece of felt this is the outside of the book.
- Then do the same with the other piece of felt and cut into four pieces along the lines like photo shown.
- Then put the other two or four pieces inside the first folded felt piece. Place a long Strip of fabric or a ribbon in the middle of the book either glue down or sew to keep all the pages together. You can trim the edges off or fold it around the back and glue or sew there as well.
Glue Here
- The fun part customize your book with your different cut out pieces, again you can glue or sew all these pieces on.
6. I cut out extra pieces to place in my pocket page.
How to make the pocket:
- Cute the pocket slightly larger than you need it.
- Fold in the edges on the sides and the bottom this is where you sew or glue down your pocket.
3. Here is a template of the pocket:
Other Templates:
Flower Pot
1,2,3
shapes
Feel free to print and use any of these templates.
And there you have it a cute felt book for you and your little one to enjoy learning with.
I hope this is a fun and creative project that you can do with scraps from your fabric bin. This book would also be cute to do with old baby clothes as a memory book for your child later on.
*Please keep in mind that small items may cause choking , and infants and toddlers should be supervised when playing with these pieces.
