Growing up around this time of year the biggest memory I have is all the family time. Especially in the kitchen, baking, decorating cookies and just laughing with Christmas music in the background. If you know us, you know we’re loud, crazy and maybe a little obnoxious when we’re all together, but we always have so much fun and make new memories. This time of year is seriously my favorite!
Every year my mom makes the best sugar cookies, no joke–THE BEST. They’re soft and fluffy and melt in your mouth. We all eat half of the dough before it even makes it in the oven and then eat more while decorating them. This meaning there’s like five cookies left over by the end, ha! Courtney (the youngest sister) cracks jokes the whole time, while Ariel (the middle sister) makes sure the cookies actually taste good with my Mom, they’re the house bakers and Blake and I eat all the cookies (okay, I eat all the cookies) and we laugh and laugh while all the guys talk sports and look at their girls like we’re crazy! Haha! Long story short it’s a hot mess and mad house, but it’s my hot mess and I love it!
Okay, okay, I know y’all are like I came here for the “to die for” sugar cookie recipe so let’s get to that! Seriously y’all this recipe is ON POINT! So we teamed up with Heilala Vanilla and I asked my Mama if I could share her recipe and now, here we are. So let’s talk sugar cookies.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup of unsalted butter
- 5 cups of flour
- 4 teaspoons of Heilala Vanilla (literally, you can’t have enough vanilla according to her and they always taste-AMAZING.)
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 teaspoons of cornstarch
Steps:
1. Mix all of the wet ingredients together in a bowl or mixer.
2. Mix all of the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and add slowly to the wet ingredients, then mix all of them together.
3. Once you’ve mixed it well and it looks done, cover the bowl with plastic and set in the fridge for one hour.
4. Set oven to 375 degrees
5. Roll out dough on a very well floured surface and cut into desired shapes. (My mom recommends that you leave them a little thicker than you would normally)
5. Cook for 9-11 minutes
6. Frost and let’s be honest–eat them all.
HAPPY BAKING + MERRY CHRISTMAS Y’ALL!
