Christmas this year was so much more special than the others. Don’t get me wrong, I love this season every year, but when you have a baby of your own there’s just something extra special about it. I struggled at first with everything this year. I was down in the dumps because we’re not in our house yet and living with my in laws while it’s being built and just felt like it wasn’t going to be as special and like I was failing as a Mom since it was Blake’s first Christmas. However after I got over my pity party for myself I really dove in on the reason for the season and it was a success y’all. Before the Christmas Eve festivities began we all played in the snow together. Blake was belly laughing as Howie rolled around and became a real live Snow Dog. It was seriously one of the cutest things. Then we spent Christmas Eve with Marcus’ family. We kept their tradition of eating out at Jack In The Box and driving around looking at all the fun Christmas lights around town alive. Blake was out for the Christmas lights part, but I know she would have loved them! Then we swapped gifts before we headed to my parents for a Christmas Eve slumber party! Blake was given such a special gift from Marcus’ parents, a book with their voices reading each page. I love sentimental pieces and can’t wait for her to really understand this special present. This year my mom thought it would be fun to have a slumber party at their house since we’re in between right now anyways and well..really who needs an excuse for a giant family sleepover?! We started the night with coordinating PJ’s for Blake and I, then dove into games with the family. This is literally my favorite part about Christmas! All of the family time, by far. We laughed and laughed, played games and joked about who knows what, probably 99% things no one else would think is funny or inappropriate things among the boys.. Eventually we all made our way to our own rooms for bedtime. Blake didn’t sleep at all that night, she must’ve known Santa was coming 😉 So the morning took forever to get here for me, but finally it arrived! We all sat down at the table together and ate the most delicious breakfast made by my Mama! I’m talking cinnamon rolls, bacon, eggs, fruit, hash browns, you name it. She goes full out on Christmas morning and never disappoints! The day was spent laughing, smiling, remembering loved ones who have passed away and focusing on the reason for this special season, Christ. It was an amazing day and Blake was smiles all day long even though so was running on zero sleep. I can’t wait to tell her about all the fun from her first Christmas and to continue to create new traditions as our own little family.
