Since attending Alt Summit I’ve received a lot of emails about running a business. How I got it started? How I manage and keep track of stats, finances, all that good stuff. And the most asked question, how I manage being a Mom and working (more than) full time. So here I am, I don’t generally chat about this topic. I have an e-book out with all my tips and tricks that I’ve learned to running a successful business (you can grab that, here), but other than that unless I’m speaking at a conference or teaching a business class, I generally blog about my little family, style and products I love here. However, since I received quite a handful of emails I figured I would cover it.
First off, if you saw a few sentences back I said (more than) full time job, that’s the first thing you need to realize. Ha! I work anywhere from 60-70 hours a week, sometimes more and no, I’m not exaggerating. You might ask, what the heck are you doing? Well…blogging is a lot of work, plus we also have a small accessory shop, so that takes up time as well. I’m constantly taking pictures or at photo shoots, meetings, planning collaborations, writing blog posts, planning social media content or working on events. All of that takes a LOT of time. Plus, on top of all that I’m a full time Mom. I put our lives completely out there, try to be real and honest and keep things as little chaotic as possible. Having a schedule SAVES my sanity. You can see all my tips and tricks to scheduling out the chaos, here. (And that’s actually what I just spoke on at Alt)
However, I want to cover the question many of you already entrepreneurs or beginning entrepreneurs asked me: How do I keep track of all of our finances, stats and ideas? Well, there’s a new Staples app out and it’s literally GAME CHANGING. It’s called Quick Wins and the name is fitting. It keeps track of everything metric wise, provides a great community of supporters and has an entire section dedicated to ideas all within the app. Now, y’all know I only promote things I really use and am passionate about, so when I say this is game changing, I mean it!
A little more about the app:
•It’s available on both Apple and Android
•There are three sections that break things down in the app: Metrics, Community and Ideas
- Metrics: This covers all of your stats including financials and social media. It easily syncs your accounts up which means less work for you in the end!
- Community: The community section is a great place to read articles, grab opinions and chat with fellow entrepreneurs because let’s be real–we need all the support and friendships we can get in this industry!
- Ideas: This is one of my favorite features of the entire app. It shares tips and tricks to creating several “quick wins” within your business! For example, creating a valuable content and moving up in the Facebook world. It’s a great refresher and is like mini business courses everyday!
I highly suggest you grab this app, especially if you’re already within business or just getting started! It’s changed my entire business and made things so much smoother.
Now, the last question: How do I manage being a Mom and full time entrepreneur? This one is almost funny to me…because let’s be real, I may have my schedule down, but 9 times out of 10 we’re a hot mess. My biggest piece of advice is to kiss the Mom guilt goodbye and ask for help! When I first had Blake I told myself I should be able to be a Mom, take care of her all day, take meetings and work simultaneously. Well–NEWS FLASH…that wasn’t realistic and I spent a week trying to do so, taking 6 hours to do something that should take me 10 minutes, crying everyday and falling even more behind than I already was. ASK FOR HELP. Hire a babysitter or use Grandma! Blake hangs with her Grandma (my Mama) almost everyday while I work. I usually will end from about 4-7:30 and spend time with Blake, eat dinner as a family and get in snuggles. Then once Blake is down for bed time, the husband and I will watch a show together for about an hour and then I’m back to work again until bed. Make time for you, for your family and to be a Mom. I’ve realized I will NEVER get that time back, so I have to enjoy it, even if it means I work until 1am. To me, that’s worth it. It allows me to work a job that I seriously LOVE and be a Mom and spend time with my favorite tiny human, Blake!
