Is it just me or is that feeling of being needed by your sweet little babe just the best thing in the whole entire world? Seriously, even if it’s tears as I walk away I feel a little sense of “YES!” “SHE LOVES ME!”. It’s a little twisted, she cries because she’s sad to watch me leave and I’m excited because she’s crying and sad that I’m leaving. Whoops. It’s just that feeling though, knowing that you mean the world to a tiny little life, that they love you, they’re obsessed with you and rely on you.
It’s a little reminder, especially on the hard days, that you’re doing alright. You’re good at your job as a Mom.
Well I was rocking Blake the other night in her cute little gnome swaddle (we will talk about that in a second ;)) and she looked around the room, rubbed her eyes for a little bit and the finally fell asleep. I was in a hurry that night, I had a lot of work to do and I wasn’t quite soaking up the time like I should have been. So the minute she was asleep I stood up and set her in her crib. Well, that transfer from my arms to her crib woke her right up. She looked at me, I kissed her forehead and starting to walk out, but before I could even get out the door she let out a heart wrenching scream. At first, I was frustrated, super frustrated. I thought, Blake come on! I need to get these things done, please just sleep. I tried to pat her back to sleep without picking her up and she just wasn’t having it. So finally after a few long sighs and frustrating thoughts I picked her up and guess what…
She was instantly calm.
She snuggled her head into my chest and grabbed tightly to my shirt.
My heart sank.
One, I felt a little disappointed that I was trying to rush this moment. And two, that feeling, that same feeling that she just wanted me entered my heart and it felt good. I wrapped her up right in her little blanket and just held her and rocked her for almost an hour. I stared at her, watched her little sleepy faces change and enjoyed that feeling.
Maybe it’s selfish, I’m not sure, but either way that feeling, the one where you just feel needed, is amazing. I don’t ever want to lose it. I want her to NEED me forever.
All of this happened while she was cuddled within her Gnome swaddle and I know y’all are going to ask all about it from the pictures! I mean really, who wouldn’t? It’s the cutest blanket ever.
So let me give you the low down. It’s made by Oliver + Kit and it’s by far our favorite swaddle we’ve ever owned. In fact, all of their swaddles are.
Oliver + Kit is owned by Karen + Dani Collins, a mother-daughter team from Iowa who have a passion for bringing bright bold prints to the traditional swaddling blanket. AND THEY’RE DOING IT RIGHT because we’re obsessed. Their swaddles are made with the softest 100% cotton muslin and we love them because they’re big! Meaning, Blake still uses them.
So to celebrate Motherhood I asked them if they would offer y’all a coupon code AND guess what, they are!
