Every Monday night we try to do something as a family. Anything really, just as long as we’re together and spending quality time with each other. We put down our phones (minus for pictures of course) and really SPEND time together. Since fall is in the air here in Idaho we thought it was the perfect evening to put our fire pit to use!
I hit the store Monday afternoon with Blake, loaded up on all the necessities (chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows, fairlife chocolate milk, etc.). Then we planned a fun little night for when Daddy got home. It was better than I could have ever imagined. Marcus got a fire started, Blake and I cuddled up on the couch out there, chocolate milk in hand. Because really, what goes better with s’mores than chocolate milk?! Especially when it’s fairlife chocolate milk, literally the creamiest, best chocolate milk you’ll ever have–swear 😉 Blake is currently obsessed with straws, so she will only drink out of a cup with a straw. It’s kind of hilarious, but that meant she had her cute cupcake cup, filled to the top with chocolate milk and with a straw. I of course had a mug, because I drink everything out of a mug. And Marcus had his big plastic cup. It’s funny, we totally have cup “types”, we’re that family.
Once the fire was started, we read books, Blake played with all the rocks, we laid in the hammock and the pups ran around like crazy. It was chaotic, but it was my chaotic and it was perfect. Then it was marshmallow roasting time and this was the best part. I helped Blake hold her stick above the fire (and far, far away from it), I ate like 10 pieces of chocolate, we drank even more chocolate milk, in fact we finished an entire jug of fairlife chocolate milk and we had the best time. Blake was covered in marshmallow by the end of the night, which led to a long bath and a whole lot of scrubbing (because marshmallow ain’t easy to get off) and then we had a couple of meltdowns because the chocolate milk was gone. But hey! If that’s the worst of it, I’ll take it.
These Monday nights are seriously my favorite. It’s something I look forward to every single week and I think it’s so important that we do them because we live in such a busy, fast paced life. So often I forget to just slow down, to chill and enjoy the little moments–but by scheduling a night a week aside I’m reminded to do so, and often.
