The other day (and y’all, this is a TRUE story) I was attempting to work out my arms. Now mind you, this doesn’t happen often because well–Mom life and my work outs generally consist of chasing around a 15 month old while trying lifting my 25 pound diaper bag as weights. So clearly I was feelin’ pretty motivated this day. I had real weights out, one of those stretch band things and you know–the whole thing, good tunes, the babe playing, we were ready for a serious arm toning session. So I did my first round of reps, one down four to go! I start my first set of the second round and then I hear it. It was not the loudest crash, but something definitely got knocked down, or spilled or something. So obviously I stop, run over to where the little one is and welp, dog food, dog water, EVERYWHERE. In fact everywhere might be an understatement. Not only did she dump the entire dog food and water bowl, she then played in it for who knows how long while I sweated away in the other room AND then she dumped the entire 20 pound bag of new dog food. When I walked in she proceeded to belly laugh, splash in the water and then throw dog food around like confetti. *FACE PALM*
Does that story sum up why my work outs are slim to non existent? 😉
In fact, do these pictures above sum it up? Because they should. Also you better believe I rolled that Cottonelle® Toilet Paper right back up! We don’t waste in our house. Haha! Anyways, so my point of all these stories and those pretty (eye roll) cute pictures above is to share a few tips I’ve learned to “working out” as a Mom.
I put working out in quotes because going to the gym is impossible some days, so we have to work with what we’ve got and on the days we can actually hit the gym we have to RUN WITH IT and don’t look back!
Tip #1: You’re most likely getting in some serious cardio throughout the day if you have a toddler. Roll with it. If your toddler wants to be chased, do it! Sometimes I’ll make a game out of it and do mini sprints in the kitchen while Blake is “hiding” for me to catch her. It’s easy and silly, but it does the trick. Same rule of thumb goes for all other work outs. What kid doesn’t like being flown in the air like an airplane? There’s your arm OR your leg work out, depending on how you do airplane in your house! They’ll keep asking for “more, more, more” and guess what? Count those little airplane games as some serious arm/leg sets!
Tip #2: Buy a water bottle. You know–the fancy ones that you most likely have 20 of in your cabinet, yeah, those ones. Well, pull one out and fill it every morning! Every time you refill your little’s sippy cup, your on water better be gone and you better be filling yours up as well! Water can seriously make all the difference for your energy, skin, you name it. Plus it really balances out my Dr. Pepper addition 😉
Tip #3: Get outside or to the gym. If you can get to the gym, great–do it! If you can’t (you’re like me most days) just go outside! If it’s cold, bundle up, grab the stroller and go for a light jog or walk around the neighborhood. One, it’s good for all of your sanity and two, well, it’s exercise-duh!
Tip #4: Eating makes a difference. I know, I know you’re like wait, what? The girl who drinks Dr. Pepper everyday is telling me this. Yes, yes I am. I love myself some DP, but it’s all about moderation. I can drink that, but the rest of the day it’s clean eating! Clean, clean, clean, like Cottonelle® with CleanRipple® texture, so clean you can go commando. 😉 Seriously though, veggies with Greek yogurt ranch dip, all the fruit, turkey, avocados and all the yogurt with granola you can it! Those are my go to anyways. Just do it and I promise you’ll thank me later.
Do you have any tips or tricks to keeping in shape with a little one? I want to know! Seriously, the more the better. We all know, we can use all the help we can get. 😉
