This year since Blake is getting older and well, she loves to read I decided to start a little tradition. It’s so fun to start new traditions and think of little things to do as a family during this time of year. Every night we have been reading a book together as a family. We snuggle up in our PJs, turn the fire on, cuddle together on the bed and read. Blake loves to look at all the pictures and find everything she recognizes on each page and Marcus or I read. It’s the sweetest little time together as a family and it seriously makes my heart so happy.
As I get older I am learning what’s really important. Life isn’t about the amount of money we make, the number of followers we have on social media or all those silly things — it’s about family, it’s about being kind to others, making a difference and making memories. I’ve done a lot of things in my life and well, I’ll tell you right now that spending time as a family is definitely top on my list. It brings me so much happiness and honestly, I forget about all the stresses and worries when I’m with them having fun. So these snuggles every night on our bed, reading by the fire, with the Christmas lights twinkling have my heart so happy. I mean, quite honestly I might even continue it forever and ever. We usually read in Blake’s room before she goes to bed, but it’s so much better when there isn’t a rushed feeling and we get to laugh and snuggle together on our bed.
Currently we have read the same book, pretty much every single night, along with an Elmo book too (obviously). It’s called “Give Please a Chance“. It’s the sweetest little picture book by James Patterson and Bill O’Reilly! It’s about manners and Blake LOVES it. She points out the kid’s “eye”, “mouth”, “nose” and loves whenever she sees something on a page that she recognizes. I love it because it’s “secretly” teaching my little babe the importance of manners. Simple things like saying please and thank you are so overlooked and I want Blake to grow up knowing how important they actually are and that she should be using good manners everyday, no matter where she is. It’s just like every other little thing we are teaching our babes and politeness should be top on that list too! Plus, if your little is anything like Blake they probably love looking at books so this is perfect.
Lucky for you, I’m giving one away tonight PLUS a $50 visa gift card!
