One of the things that really drew us in when picking out a lot to build a house on was the horses around the corner. It sounds silly, but I mean it–we have the rural feel, but still within the city. Plus I knew if my sweet girl was like her Mama, she would love horses. I rode off and on as a kid/teenager, still wish I did, but either way–I love them. They’re beautiful animals and it’s way too much fun to essentially have them in our “backyard”. Well Mama was right and guess what? My sweet girl is obsessed with them. Every single time we drive past them she yells “HOR-SEEEES, HOR-SEESES” with the occasional “NEIGHHH” thrown in there. It’s the sweetest thing. She blows them a kiss every time she sees them and always wants out. Well obviously, I can’t always stop the car in the middle of the rode to get her out to see the horses (I know worst, Mom, ever). So we’ve been taking walks over there every once in awhile. It’s freezing over here still, with you know about two feet of snow on the ground, but we try to get over there at least once a week. I can’t wait for spring time though and to show her the baby horses, she’s seriously going to be in love–she LOVES babies.
For now though, we bundle up nice and warm, grab her blankey and load everything up in our UPPAbaby stroller so that we can walk over and see them. They come right up to the fence every time and Blake literally squeals with excitement. In fact–I need to put together a video of it because it’s the cutest thing ever and I don’t ever want to forget it. There’s just something about the little things that she does that make my heart want to burst. Like the way she gets excited for the “hor-sees” or the way she says M&Ms — “emmies”. Those tiny little things make my heart happy. They also remind me of how much I don’t want her to grow up. Don’t get me wrong, this age is well, hard…but it’s also a lot of fun. She’s sassier than ever and very independent, but she knows just the right things to do to make my heart happy, at the right time too.
I’ve been trying really hard to make more one on one time for us every week, everyday. So these little stroller walks to the horses have been great. Sometimes I question my parenting, I think we all do. I worry that I am rushing through the day too often, that I am not focusing on her enough, that I’m not enough, you know–those stupid mind games we all play with ourselves. So I’m trying to do better, even if it’s just a simple walk around the corner. It’s time for just us. I don’t look at my phone, we just talk to each other while we walk, she points at all the things and for just a few minutes I forget about everything else. I forget about the stressful things, the worries, the wonders and the chaos and I get to just be a Mom. I want 2017 to be full of more moments like those because well, those moments are what’s really important. In fact, I saw a quote the other day and it said, “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives, and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” I’m not sure who said it, I saw it on Instagram, but it hit me hard. It’s the truth and those focuses, they’re really what’s important.
Stroller details:
UPPAbaby VISTA — my favorite stroller ever! It drives so smooth, folds up easily and compact and well, it comes with a tiny baby bassinet which I’m obsessed with and might force Blake into every once in awhile. 😉 Kidding…kind of, no but seriously I can’t wait to hopefully use it one day! It’s the perfect single stroller or double stroller and great for all adventures! Blake loves it because she sits higher and can see everything, plus it’s super comfy and roomy enough to stick a blanket on top of Blake without it dragging on the ground. Plus, can we talk about the storage underneath? I mean, literally SO much storage, but it’s in the right place where it doesn’t make it bulky. When I was looking for a stroller, I needed something that could turn into a double, that pushed easily (and fit down aisles) and that folded up smoothly and fit in my car. Storage was a bonus perk and well–the VISTA literally has ALL of these features so it hit the jackpot. Plus, you can have a seat AND a bassinet or two seats attached, you just purchase the additional upper/lower adapters, it’s game changing people. Trust me, get the UPPAbaby VISTA stroller if you’re in the stroller market, even for new Moms with just one babe–then you don’t have to purchase an entirely new stroller when you have a second baby.
