So..funny story about this knit hat. Well, you know — my life is kind of a whirlwind it feels like most days. I get up in the morning and then before I know it it’s 2AM the next day and I am climbing into bed, not really sure how I got there exactly and generally a little frazzled. It’s fine, that’s Mom life, that’s working life, that’s just life. Well, I decided I needed to do something for ME. Something I could spend a few minutes on everyday that was dedicated me time. So…I said, YES let’s team up with We are Knitters and friggin’ knit a hat dang it. Many moons ago, I learned how to knit, like when I was 10 or so, but like super basic skills, like “casting on” the yarn to the knitting needle. Are y’all impressed though that I know what that means? I mean, can we just talk about that for a second?
Okay, but seriously. So I said, yes. Let’s tackle this bad boy, give me somethin’ to do for a couple of minutes a day and I should be able to just pick it up fairly quickly! Well…guys…I was a little out of practice. Fine, a lot out of practice. THANKFULLY, my dear Mother-in-law and a family friend came to the rescue and helped a sista out though and well, LOOK AT THIS FRIGGIN’ KITTY CAT BEANIE.
BUT here’s the thing, here’s why I would do it all over again, seriously I have a sweater sitting in my bedroom that’s gonna be next, though I think I’m going to give myself a littlleee more time for that one. 😉 It taught me so much about myself. One, it taught me that well…reality check, I need to prioritize my life just a little better. Like when I say I’m going to set time aside to have me time, I need to REALLY set time aside and have me time. And yeah, yeah, yeah “I’m too busy” well Jess, again, here with another reality check for myself, if I can scroll on Insta for 10 minutes, I can take me time. Two, I literally was working with my hands, like you know — MAKING SOMETHING. How incredible is that? Yeah, I had well…a lot of help and a family friend come to the rescue, but I learned something new and guess what, practice makes perfect and honestly, I’m proud of what I did do. I mean, learning a new skill is kind of a big friggin’ deal people. Third, talk about therapeutic. No joke, when I did 64 cast ons, I think it was 64…it’s fine, I was totally in the zone. My mind was clear, I was focused and honestly, for just a few minutes I wasn’t stressed at all. It was glorious. Finally, it required me to take me time, which honestly was the best part of all because honestly, we all deserve a little me time, in fact I think it’s 100% vital to take me time on the daily.
Now, the knitting shop details — We Are Knitters. They actually sell knitting AND crochet kits for every level; beginning, intermediate, you know. But their stuff is like MEGA friggin’ cute, like not your average (sorry to say it) “Grandma” knitwear. I mean just look at a few of my favs:
Now, I really think everyone should do this. Take some me time, learn a new skill and do you. Plus you get pretty things out of it, so that’s a win. I’ve also heard crocheting is a little easier, so if you’re totally new to the knitting/crocheting game, maybe go that route? Though, I’m not entirely sure how to crochet all that well….so, really just pick your favorite cute thing, watch their videos (which are SUPER helpful) and get your DIYin’ on! Plus, you better take pictures and DM me so that we can show each other our knitting progress. Yeah, I’ll hold you accountable dang it. 😉
