The other day I went to put a little bit of make up on (I mean…how dare I right?). Well guys, it bit me in the butt, big time. I was gone probably 3 minutes, all I did was throw some cover up on my zits, mascara my bottom lashes and put a little color on my lips. Well….in those three short (but I guess long) minutes, Blake had managed to color all over my white kitchen cabinets, with a pen she found who knows where. I walked out and she goes “MAMA! Look, look at all these colors!” — like so proud y’all, she didn’t have a clue at the fact that what she just did was a big no no. I grit my teeth and bit my lip trying to hold back my frustration and mega tears. Then I blurted out “BLAKKEE”, “BLAKE that’s a big no no! We only color on paper!!!” and guys, that was the day I learned that not only does Blake love to color, but she needed a little coloring box that she could reach and get to in the moments that I wasn’t there. That way she could grab her books instead of using my white cabinets as her next masterpiece.
SHEESHH. I guess we all have to learn though? Honestly it kind of broke my heart just a little bit because she was so proud of what she had done, then I shut her down and her little eyes filled with tears and before I knew it I was a puddle on the floor apologizing to her for yelling at her. HAH! Whoops! Not my finest parenting moment, it’s fine. She just has me wrapped.
Anyways, the moral of my story, Blake loves art. I mean that too, she loves to color, she loves looking at colors. She loves to hang things up in her room, it’s seriously the sweetest thing and I’m glad I am writing this down right now because I never want to forget it. We recently added a mural in her room from Brookly and she’s obsessed. She helped me pick out the spot to hang it and every night before bed she shows me all the different colors and tells me which is which. Generally it’s something like, the color purple is “pink” and so on, basically everything is pink. It’s a work in progress people. BUT I love watching her little imagination run wild.
Now the shop where we got this mural, it’s called Brookly and honestly y’all need to go grab all the cute things from her. LIKE GORGEOUS THINGS. ANDDDD she has a coloring book, which might be my second favorite (next to Blake’s mural in her room). It’s probably Blake’s first favorite, it’s fine, #priorities. Which is where the fun fact comes in. Remember how she colored all over my cabinets and then I decided I needed to give her a little art area?! Well, I did just that. We filled a basket in the kitchen, that she could easily reach and pull out, with all the coloring things, including this Brookly coloring book. In fact, it was the first coloring book she had in there and it’s by far her favorite. I threw a couple of packs of stickers in there, crayons and a few pens (because she loves pens for whatever reason) and guys, it’s been game changing. I find her all the time sitting on my bed or on the kitchen floor with her little Brookly coloring book and crayons just coloring away!
The coloring book is even cooler BECAUSE it was literally designed and drawn completely by Brooke, the owner of Brookly and I’m all about a good small shop, especially one with all the gorgeous artwork.
