Summer is here and you better believe that you’ll find us outside in the backyard, with our music blastin’ (you know at an appropriate volume not to tick the neighbors off) and drinkin’ all the Dr Pepper. I am a big fan of get togethers, “parties” if you will. I love throwing them, I generally go a little overboard and honestly, I don’t even mind one single bit. They’re fun, they keep me happy, and my friends and family can just deal with a little over the top party, food and a whole lot of fun, dang it. 😉 I mean really, who would complain about that?
So today I am going to share my favorite way to throw a backyard BBQ with friends, how I keep things on a budget, but fun, and maybe go a little (fine a lot) big.
When throwin’ a backyard BBQ obviously my number one grocery item is Dr Pepper. I mean, honestly do you know me AT ALL? If you’ve been following me for the past 7 years or whatever amount of time it is that I have sold my soul to blogging 😉 You’re fully aware of my love for Dr Pepper. Like it’s more of an obsession. It’s fine. Even Blake knows and she knows that it’s only Mama’s drink. Train em’ young people. Anyways, so that’s my must have for BBQs. Here in Idaho, everyone loves it, and well it’s easy and inexpensive to grab a few packs and be drink ready. Plus, it’s kind of fun to decorate with Dr Pepper.
This time I used their 6 pack can/bottle holder (it can hold either) and threw some cans in it, set it on the “tablescape” if you will and threw a cute letterboard next to it. You know, explainin’ what my party was all about. Just in case people weren’t aware. 😉
Also, I have fun for you Dr Pepper lovers!
When you buy any Dr Pepper at Walmart during 6/15-8/15 and upload your receipt, here, you can earnfun prize like my can/bottle holder or other goodies! Deets:
- Spend $5, get a unicorn beverage holder inflatable
- Spend $10, get a Walmart e-Gift Card worth $5
- Spend $20, get a 6 pack can/bottle holder with ice pack
- Spend $40, get a Dr Pepper bottle shaped pool float
After you have your Dr Pepper, because well priorities, then you’ll grab the food. I generally go with the basics, burgers, hot dogs and chips. ALSO GUAC, ALL THE GUAC and make sure you make a good friggin’ bowl of guac. You can use my recipe if you’d like because well, not to toot my own horn but it’s bomb.com. Here’s the recipe:
- 4 Avocados
- 1 Large Tomato Diced
- ½ White Onion Diced
- ¼ Cup Sour Cream
- ½ Cup Cilantro
- ½ TSP Lemon Juice
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Mash up the avocados in a bowl
- Throw in tomato, onion, cilantro and mix
- Add lemon juice and sour cream and mix
- Add seasons and salt to taste
Once the food is to order, you got yoself a Dr Pepper and the guac is prepped, and then it’s decor time. Generally I make Marcus mow the lawn the day before, you know so people aren’t pushin’ their way through 2 ft tall grass. 😉 That was a little dramatic, it’s fine. You get my point. Then I set up seating areas, try to get some shade happenin’ because ain’t nobody wanna be overheated. I always have the kiddie pool ready to go so that our little ones can keep occupied, but we can keep an eye on them. After that it’s the tablescape part, which is my favorite. You can see above I didn’t go over the top, but it’s cute and fun. I generally keep the food inside because then you’re not dealing with bugs or the hot sun and it gives people an excuse to come inside to the a/c which is always nice. Then the fun begins.
We all chow down on appetizers, (guac, veggies, whatever), the guys grill and well, it’s a friggin’ party. Also games, games are always fun. Don’t get me wrong, I love my sweet baby girl (like obsessed with her), but it’s fun to have adult nights too. So sometimes we all get sitters and play games and well, you know, make it a grown up party where we aren’t changing diapers. 😉
What’s your favorite way to summer party?!
