I’ve been working really hard at putting Motherhood first. It might sound silly but it’s something that some days I forget to do. It’s not that I ignore my kid by any means (well ๐ KIDDING), but I just get so focused on everything that I need to do that day or the work I’m doing or the cleaning or whatever that I am not really present in the moment. It’s almost like I felt like I needed to go go go or nothing would get done. Well, my anxiety was getting the best of me and I had to make a change.
The reality is, you can’t actually do whatever it is that you need to do (the right way at least) if you’re so anxious and stressed out about it in the first place. You NEED down time, you need time for just you. I mean in those moments are when you come up with your greatest plans, your best ideas and in those moments you’re your very best self. So I’ve been getting up every morning, starting the morning off just Blake and I. I clean around the house, play with my sweet girl, watch her play and just soak it all in. I’ve come to realize through the years that well, honestly — things will get done, somehow things will work out, I don’t need to make it harder for myself. I deserve to enjoy life, we all do.
After starting our morning off slow, we generally run errands or just do things around the house. More often than note, we’re out running around (because well, life–things still have to happen). I just have to take a deep breath, remind myself that Blake is first and number one and even during the chaos of errands, I get to be a Mom first and foremost because that’s what makes me the happiest and again, I deserve to be the happiest.
So I’ve worked towards making the changes for smoother outings in the morning. Rather than running out the door 45 minutes before Blake has to take a nap, then being late to nap time and having a fussy baby all because we were just lazy. I start the night before. It’s just works for me. I get our bag ready for whatever errand we have the next day and TIP Mamas, I pack snacks. I didn’t used to do that (I know, laugh it up — rookie) and we would be out and before I knew it she was crying and I was spending a ton of money on (unhealthy) food. So I pack RXBARS (if you haven’t had them, get them). They make adult ones and kids now and there’s tons of options to choose from so you won’t get bored. Plus guys — they’re really good (and good for you) and their story is incredible, I’ll talk more about these below. After I throw those bars in the bag, I clean out any trash from the day before, then fill up a water bottle for me and a water bottle for Blake and stick it in the fridge. This way everything is ready, I can grab the bottles, put em’ in the bag and we are on our way without more hassle than there already is between convincing a two year to get dressed and stopping her from bringing 22 barbies, 4 blankets and whatever else she can fit in her arms. ๐
It’s just little things like that. I find the time, when I have the time. I don’t force it. Right now, Blake is playing barbies in the living room and I am typing this at the kitchen while I keep peeking at her and thinking, gosh is this real life? Motherhood is good. The reality was, life is hard, the last few years have been rough for us to say the least and well, things weren’t changing, so I had to make a change. I had to learn to roll with it, find the things that make me the happiest through the downs and put all my energy in those first, then the other things second.
And a tip, write them down. I literally got out a piece of paper, I wrote down all the things in life that have to happen, the day to day, everything. Then on the side I wrote the top 5 things from that list that make me the happiest and those things, those are the ones that get done first and foremost everyday. They’re the ones I focus on and lean on when my mind wanders or things get tough. Then I do the other things in between, with happy music on and a focus that we are blessed, I have so much to be grateful for and the hard stuff will eventually pass.
Now let’s talk more about those RXBARS….
I know y’all love when I share I product that I love — so let’s get down and chat about these. One their mission is incredible. They started this in their kitchen, door to door, from well nothing which hits me. I love seeing good people doing good things succeed. Two, they wanted to do good, the honest way and make something delicious — which they do perfectly. The ingredients are literally huge on the front of the bar and there are no secrets. Three, they make a kid’s bar — which was a big win for me because obviously I want Blake to get the nutrients she needs, easily, effectively and guys — SHE ACTUALLY EATS THEM. Moms, you know that’s a big friggin’ deal. Now, you can read their story, here. They’re sold all over the place and we generally just buy a couple boxes of them at a time. My favorite flavors are —Peanut butter chocolate andย chocolate sea salt. Blake’s favorite flavors are – – Berry Blast and Chocolate Chip.
You can grab the bars, here or my personal fav, Amazon ๐ย
