It’s Mother’s Day weekend! A weekend that honestly used to cause me a LOT of pain while we went through our infertility journey. Now it’s a holiday I cherish, something that I feel extremely lucky, forever grateful for, but also know the hurt it causes. So this Mother’s Day I thought it would be fun to reflect on a couple Mamas that have shaped me, made me who I am, made me laugh and kept me grounded. I’m also sharing a peek at the plans I have for my sweet Mama and I this weekend – a little something fun, just the two of us to keep us laughing and smiling.
MY MAMA: Don’t get me wrong – we have our differences, I think every Mom/Daughter relationship does, but this lady has been through it all and has been the most incredible Mom through every bit of it. She taught me to be kind, compassionate, loving and independent. I watched her care for my Grandma, my Grandpa and my Uncle, she dropped everything in a heartbeat to be by their side and take them in for years until their final breathe. She showed me strength through extreme hardship, she loved me through my roughest moments and held me tight while we faced one of the most excruciating trials of infertility.
She’s also kept me laughing my entire life. She’s the first person to come out of nowhere with the funniest comment or action. I can remember her, me and my sisters just rolling laughing together in the car, at home – whenever we are together, laughter is most likely to be found. I’m forever grateful for her and everything she has and continues to teach and show me.
MY GRANDMA: We moved in with my Grandma shortly after my Mom got divorced and it was the best thing ever. My Grandma was my absolute best friend. She showed me love, compassion, strength and everything in between. I remember sleeping in the floor in her room growing up, she would let me watch TV late and tell me stories of when she was a little girl. She would joke a lot in between in story and always ended the night by telling me how much she loved the lamp she had next to her bed. It was a touch lamp, you could touch it three times for three different brightnesses and she seriously thought it was the best thing ever.
She was seriously the best, she taught me my faith, my strength and demonstrated the same compassion my Mom had. I am the Mom I am today because of her and my Mom, completely.
So this year – as of last week – I made the decision to do something fun for Mother’s Day for my Mama and to honor my Grandma. The first thing was to honor my Grandma, to create special memories with my little girl and my Mom and how I did this was pictures. We went and took the most beautiful pictures (as you can see), with a picture of my Grandma, my sweet Mama and Blake. You may not understand – but this is a big deal, my Mom does NOT take pictures, so this was extra special and now we have memories to cherish forever.
Second on the Mother’s Day happenings is this weekend, I am taking my Mom out for some fun. We love to laugh together, so I said, okay we need to go see “Life of the Party” – it’s in theaters this weekend anyways so it was perfect. If you don’t know what it is, go click over to the trailer now and then get planning because it’s the perfect thing to make a date out of with your own Mom this weekend! It has Melissa McCarthy (yep, you already know it’s good now) who plays and “old school Mom” who creates a whole new life, hence the name – “Life of the Party” – the trailer alone has me crying laughing so I’m so excited to just have some Mom time with my own Mama at the movies. It’s going to be a blast.
Now go call your Mom, tell her thank you 😉 then let her know that you’re taking her out this weekend!
