WE FINALLY FINISHED OUR SWING SET AREA! I feel like I need to literally scream it from the rooftop. It was not going to lie, a project. Not so much because of the swing set, that part was fine – more so because we have such a slanted backyard that well, we had to get creative with things so that kids weren’t falling off and the whole swing set wasn’t basically crooked. SO Marcus and my Dad saved the day and made up a plan for a platform (which you see in the pictures) and welp, it worked out perfectly, it lifted it just enough on the edge it needed to be lifted on and Blake hasn’t stopped playing on it since.
So now let’s chat about it because since I’ve been sharing the progress and everything on insta-stories I’ve had lots of questions. The biggest one – where is the swing set from, so I’ll answer that first. We got it from Family Leisure and it’s the Acadia swing set. We had to switch the orientation of ours because well, again backyard issues, but it’s perfect. It’s actually on sale right now too soooo just sayin’ 😉 We went with Family Leisure because one, we had heard really good things about them, two free shipping over $40 and their customer service is on point. Plus I was just looking again and it looks like they also offer finance plans for those that want it so I would say that’s a perk too if you’re looking for that! We are actually planning on purchasing a hot tub from them in the next hopefully few months too! Also if you’re lucky and have a store near you, just use their finder, here, you can go in and look and they can help even more, but either way I HIGHLY recommend them! We love the swing set we were given, it’s perfect, age appropriate for Blake and is pretty shaded with the canopy and little picnic table underneath, plus it’s more on the affordable side, but big enough for friends to still play on!
Next, second most common asked question – our turf. It’s recycled football turf. If y’all probably remember, I had a REALLY hard time deciding between rubber mulch and turf for under this area. BUT I’m hear to tell you I am SO happy with our choice. Ultimately we decided to do turf because I didn’t want to deal with the mess of rubber mulch and I had read that it can still sliver, so we went with the turf. Well, as you may know – turf is REALLY expensive, so at first I was like welp, I don’t know if we are going to be able to do turf, but then I found here at a local rock place (Roots), they sold recycled turf for Artificial Grass Liquidators – so no joke, I did turf in this entire spot (and it’s fun football turf) for under $200, whereas brand new turf was going to be almost $1000. I chalked this up to a win and honestly, love it – it’s super soft, it was HEAVY and we had like 10 guys over to help install it, but it’s perfect for under there. Plus, we did the curbing around it so it just really breaks off the area from the rest of the backyard and I love that.
The play house now…welp, I only included a quick peek of that because eventually one of these days I will share the full DIY on that, but long story short – I found it for SUPER cheap on Facebook Marketplace, then I DIY-ed it. We painted, built a platform and really decorated it all for under the price of buying a new playhouse. I’ll share all the deets of that soon!
Long story short, that’s the area – if you have more questions feel free to DM me or leave a comment and I will get back to you! We love this little space though and it’s just so nice to have an area in our backyard that Blake can play in!
