With summer coming to an end (UGH) and well life picking up busy wise I figured I needed to get a system into place for healthier eating, lunches and everything. Plus Blake starts preschool this year (which, where did the freaking time go), Marcus goes back to work (teacher life) and I’ve got to get this whole lunch thing and new schedule down. When it comes to eating in general I pick things typically based off of convenience. My days typically end up chaotic and rushed so when I realize I haven’t eaten in a few hours my hands generally go straight for a drive thru if I’m out or the bag of chips if I’m at home. Seriously like I said, convenience.
SO I made a game plan, which happened to work perfectly for lunches/snacks too for Blake and Marcus. I hit up Amazon and purchased an array of containers and solutions from Sistema. Which if you haven’t heard of them, go to Amazon first, fall in love with them, buy them and then come back here to see why I love them so dang much. 😉
I grabbed everything from their drink containers, salad ones to sandwich and snack ones. I also got the perfect one that comes with a little fork and spoon to go inside Blake’s lunchbox. In fact, I got two of them because Marcus needed one for his lunch too. I love that there are compartments so you can separate food and you guys the salad one (my personal favorite) is THE BEST. It fits perfectly, you can separate toppings which I love to keep things from getting soggy, then there’s a cute little container to put the dressing in and it’s also complete with a fork and knife so you’re not wasting money on disposable ones.
So how have I been using these for myself? Lunches are pretty self explanatory I feel like, but I have been using these at home too. Every night before I go to bed I prep for the next day. A few months ago I tried weekly meal prepping and it just didn’t work well for me. However this has worked really well for me. So each night I put my snacks in their own separate containers, set them in the fridge or pantry (and they’re portioned off correctly) and then I do the same for my lunch. That way when I’m in a hurry and realize, shoot, I need to eat – it’s easily accessible to grab the healthy food I prepped the night before. As far as breakfast and dinner, I eat the same thing for breakfast well, everyday. Which is either yogurt and fruit or oatmeal. So that part is easy for me and I do it first thing. Then dinner wise, I usually will just do whatever we are eating as a family.
Now, I’m real stoked to put these goodies to use for lunches because I think it’s going to make the whole process a little easier, reduce costs on bags and disposables and just be over all a good change. For now though, with the couple weeks we have left of summer, we will be busting these bad boys out and putting them to use for picnics and lake days!
