I wish that I could show you my excitement for this post through the computer, like you could see my face and hear me loudly typing all these words. BUT I can't so you just have to picture my crazy self, like mid mirror dance party on insta-stories version, while you read this. ANYWAYS, y'all I am SO freaking excited about this so rather than just discussing my excitement let me tell you what it is. We are reno-ing our master bathroom with Delta®!! YAY! I knew we were going to do this when we built the house, didn't know when, but knew we would and IT'S HAPPENING. When we built our house we focused more on structural things, like size, where things were placed, etc. rather than decor and upgrades because we knew we could add those later, but we wanted a solid structure of the home we could see ourselves in for a long time. So, since moving in, we have slowly been upgrading, decorating and adding the things we really want to the inside of it!
Today I'm going to give you a look into the design of our master bathroom - what we are going for, what we've done already and just kind of an overall look! I will also be sharing the entire process with y'all, so you'll see the beginning (today), middle (soon) and then the end (in about a month). Like I said, we really focused on the structure when we built, so I LOVE the layout of our bathroom so much, we have dual his and her closets on each side, a closed off toilet area and then a separate shower and bathtub. Literally ALL the things I wanted so it's a big win. However, we did a lot of just standard things that came with the house so we could come in and really customize. This is where the fun is coming in. I obviously LOVE myself a good white wall, so naturally there's a TON of white in there. However, as y'all probably already know, I love bold pieces and colors with the white and I have a very modern/bohemian style. So we went with exactly that, my entire house is literally on that same page and I love it, so why change it now? 😉
Let me share some before pictures of the bathroom because you're already going to see a big change in the wall above the shower and around the tub! The standard look that came with our bathroom was two rows of tile above the vanity area and the around the tub. So, I had white subway tile installed with black grout. I originally wanted to take that subway tile up to the ceiling around our bath tub (just like our last house). However, I've slowly learned that I just DON'T love huge areas of white subway tile with black grout because you can see EVERY imperfection and miscut in the tile. SO at the last minute, I quickly changed my mind. Honestly, I didn't know what to do for awhile. I went back in forth with big slabs of tile on the wall, shelving up both sides, but seriously I couldn't even decide. THEN IT HIT ME. SHIPLAP. FREAKING SHIPLAP. The only dilemma was - it's around the tub, so water and moisture was obviously a concern! I did my research, made a game plan, found a really great local installer and we worked together to get it figured out.
NOW HERE'S IT'S CURRENT STATE:
Some quick tips for shiplap around the tub that we did (however, I'm not an expert - so do your own research depending on your area, etc.):
- Create a moisture barrier. The tile guy that took off the old tile that was above the tub actually put a thick moisture barrier on the wall to help with this to begin with.
- We chose a vinyl shiplap rather than a wood shiplap so we didn't have any weird warping or trapping of water
- To ensure it was set well, we caulked the heck out of the shiplap (just like you would tile) ALLL around the tub for up about 4 rows.
Once we made the game plan, the guy came and installed it and I LOVE IT. Seriously, it couldn't be anymore perfect - like it turned out so much better than I ever imagined. We painted it to match our walls, and as you can see, took it all the way around the tub, trimmed it out and took it above the shower insert. Then for the subway tile above the vanity, we added an extra row to give it some OOMPH, which I equally love just as much!
So what is left to be done? A LOT. Here's where the fun inspiration comes into play and you can kind of see my dream board!
- Lots of clean up to happen - we've got to fixed some of the grout lines from our builder with the subway tile. Then repaint some areas!
- Replacing outlets - we are changing the outlets in our bathroom to some fun pop out ones and sleeker looking outlets that will flow a lot better.
- Changing out the faucets - this is seriously what I am the most thrilled about because I can tell you that changing out the faucets makes SUCH a big difference just from doing Blake's bathroom a few weeks ago! We are using all Delta® products in there and we are going with a Matte Black finish and – oh my gosh y'all - it's going to be stunning! We chose fixtures from the Delta Trinsic collection, which you can see, here, and I can't wait until they're installed!
- Plants and shelving - we are going to add some fun shelving in a couple of areas and of course put plants just about everywhere because well, do you even know me? Give me all the plants.
- Small decor changes - there are a lot of other small decor changes that will be happening as well just to you know, spruce it up a little and will really help add the finishing touches

Doing home projects like this is seriously so fun for me. I just love it and it's been really great for both Marcus and I to learn new skills. My Dad was a contractor for over 40 years so he has all these incredible skills when it comes to all things house and building, so it's been so great to be able to learn these skills from him and grow in these areas as we DIY and do things to our own house! Which leads me to my next point, Marcus will be installing the faucets! YAY! No joke, had you told me 7 years ago that my husband would be installing faucets in a house I would have laughed out loud. I love him dearly, but he just isn't *correction-wasn't* handy, he's so book smart and just brilliant but just wasn't great with tools so it's so exciting for me to see him growing and getting comfortable doing things like this around the house! Plus - it's just an excuse to continue to do all the house projects right? 😉 LIKE FAUCETS. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited, here just look at them, gorgeous right? Delta does things right y'all. We use Delta as much as possible in our home! Plus my gorgeous Champagne Bronze Trinsic Faucet in my kitchen that I get asked about alll the time, is of course - a Delta product because we love them so much. Anyways!
Alright, let me wrap this up and just say again I'm so excited and I can't wait to show y'all the rest! I really want you to be able to see it come to life and how we are doing it all at an affordable price (because ain't nobody got time for all that fancy ish). The only thing we aren't doing that I hope we can do in the next 5 ish years, is tile out our shower! But time, money, infertility, life, you get it. 😉 ONE DAY! For now, I'm just excited to have a little master bathroom retreat and honestly, you can do it without having this a huge space, I want you guys to see that you can totally make do with what you have! We have!
Stay tuned!
