I love Christmas so much that there’s a reason I start decorating for it at the beginning of November. It seriously just brings me so much joy. The entire month of December is about giving, family time and being together and all of those things seriously make my heart so dang happy.
I thought today would be a good day to share a Christmas tradition that we started last year and are doing again this year. Blake was so excited about it last year and it was incredible to watch her really get into the spirit of a family tradition. Each year, we buy 24 books – most Christmas-related or about giving or service. We typically grab them online or wherever I can find them the least expensive, however I do buy them new and here’s why. Every night before bed, Blake gets to “open” one of the books (we wrap them individually) then we read it together as a family. Once day 24 comes and we finish our last book, we wrap them all back up as a family and we pick someone or some place to donate them to.
I can’t even begin to explain the joy I felt last year watching Blake help wrap all of these books back up to give to another family to enjoy. She was so happy to do so and it made my Mama heart feel like, mkay – we might have rough days, but hey, I might be doing something right 😉 HA! You know what I’m talking about though?! The days are long but the years are short, am I right? Plus I feel like it’s the perfect opportunity to really bring this holiday back to exactly what it’s meant to be for.
What holiday traditions do you guys do in your house?!
If you love this or just the book idea – I’ve got a list of great Christmas books for you guys to check out – I shared one of our faves, too—from Upparent, here.

If you’re not familiar with Upparent, it’s an exciting new startup that is helping to gather the many conversations parents are having into one place. It’s an online destination for parents to seek inspiration, advice, and recommendations from other parents and you can even look by location and see what’s happening in your area around you! Lists and polls help you find activities, gather advice, get gift ideas and more, and you can add your own favorites, ask questions of the community, and bookmark ideas for later.
