The post is finally happening! HA! I’ve been working on this for like a year it feels like, I just rarely wear my hair curly so it’s taken longer than anticipated. Anyways, so I am kind of going to make this a two part. I’m going to share the products I love and use for my curls, plus a new shampoo and conditioner that I recently tried and have fallen in love with. Also I am going to answer the questions from the Instagram stories yesterday, basically all things hair that y’all have asked. I don’t know that I’ll get to all of them just because there were quite a few, but I’ll do my best!
Okay, so first things, first, CURLS. I have naturally curly/wavy hair. More so curly when my hormones are different (ie; pregnancy, HA). I shared how I do this on IGTV, so if you want to see that full tutorial you can catch it on there! As far as products, used, I’m going to link them below, as well as the shampoo and conditioner I’ve recently found and love (and it’s at Target y’all). It just has made it smoother and more manageable, even when wearing it straight, etc.
CURL PRODUCTS:
Now let’s dive into the Q + A portion. I’m just going to answer things as I go and link products asked about, etc.
Q + A:
Q: Do you shower in between washes since you go 5-6 days in between?
A: Guys, this question is killing me. HA I am not kidding it’s probably asked 20+ times. HA YES I SHOWER. Comeeee on. I don’t just roll around stinky + I live for my nightly baths, as I shared on insta yesterday. I just don’t wash my hair every time.
Q: Best thing for static?
A: You’re going to laugh at this, but I’m not kidding – lotion, it works like a charm and it’s cheap. My hair gets pretty static-y, especially with certain outfits. So I’ll put lotion on my hands, rub it in a little and then run my fingers through my hair. So I’m not like rubbing lotion in my hair, but just letting it get in there a little bit and lightly. Trust me – it works!
Q: What extensions do you wear?
A: I LOVEEE the Barefoot Blonde Hair Extensions. I think she did an incredible job designing them and they’re perfect. I have the fill ins since I have pretty thin hair that I wear almost daily just for fullness, but they’re the same length as my hair and then I have the “up” for easy, everyday styles that are up or braids! Both I wear the color “beige blonde”. You can actually order 3-5 samples to find your match and just pay shipping. Linking everything below:
Q: All time favorite shampoo/conditioner?
A: So I’m not gonna lie, I try, switch and change things up OFTEN. I love to and I have a variety of products that I love and use on and off. Currently, a big fan of the Raw Sugar Living that I listed above, also love Hair Food – both great, Target buys that have good ingredients in them. Use Hair Food sparingly though because it’s more of a moisture combo. As for “salon” products, Amika y’all – LOVE Amika and LOVE Oribe. Oribe is pricey, but incredible, Amika is just all around awesome. Linked my favorite line from each below (with deets on them all) depending on what you’re looking for and price point.
Q: Favorite hair mask or deep conditioner?
A: Hands down Raw Sugar Living’s mask or Amika’s! Both are linked below! There’s a big price difference in the two, but both work great, just for different purposes. Amika I would say is more of a “once a month or every two weeks” mask and Raw Sugar you can do once a week. Both are hydrating and great!
Q: How do you avoid getting your hair wet when you’re showering in between washes?
A: Great question! I wear a shower cap, this one to be exact and LOVE it. Worth the money, promise and you can wash it.
Q: Where can I find more tutorials?
A: I have a TON on IGTV currently or you can see in the beauty tab on my site, here, a lot more!
Q: How does your hair not look greasy in between washes?
A: For sure practice + time, sounds silly but it’s true. When I first started going this long between washes my hair was SOOO oily. So you just have to “train” your hair. Start with two days, then three, push through the oil, keep at 3 days for a couple weeks, then move to 4, etc. It’s just a time thing and your hair up a lot of the time to hide the oil while training. HA! Also, I swear by dry shampoo. Currently using Kristin Ess and LOVE it. But I also love Amika’s and Oribe’s so linking all three below
Q: Are you cutting your hair again or growing it out?!
A: Honestly, I can’t decide so for now it’s growing out. HA!
Q: What do you use to help with frizz?!
A: That shampoo above (the raw sugar unruly) is awesome and affordable, I also usually use this serum, here, and round brush my hair out when I blow dry which helps too. The serum is a little pricer, but I bought mine over a year ago and still have half a bottle left, it’s awesome stuff.
Q: Any help to getting curls back? My hair is more wavy now and used to be curly.
A: Ugh, I don’t 🙁 Product can help, but only so much. Love the stuff I linked below as well as DevaCurls (they make awesome products too – but use sparingly). Sorry I don’t have more of an answer – I think it’s just hormones and our bodies because mine does the same. WAH
Q: Can you do a french braid tutorial on Blake? Like the basics of braiding?
A: YES! This has been a request for awhile, just braiding 101 and we are working on it! So stay tuned, should have it up in the next couple of weeks 🙂
Q: Are ingredients important to you? Do you look into these?
A: YES. Especially having my cosmetology license, I’m pretty picky about what’s in my products. I’m not perfect at being “all organic” etc. but there are specific things I don’t ever want to see in things so I watch for those! Everything I have recommended I use/have used and love.
Q: Where can you buy the Bombay curling wand? Is that your favorite?
A: You can grab it, here and yes, I love it! I also love t3! I own both. I would say T3 does best for longer hair, which is why you haven’t seen me use it in awhile and Bombay is more versatile for short/long!
Q: What’s your favorite hairspray?!
A: I live for the classic Sebastian Hairspray. HA! I’ve used that and Kenra, on and off for years. LOVE them both but typically have Sebastian on hand. It’s lightweight but holds well. Linked both below, but I say go Sebastian if you’re not sure!
Q: Favorite quick busy looks?
A: When I did the 5 days a hair, earlier this week, on IGTV they are almost ALL 6 minutes or less. SO those would be perfect to watch!
Q: Tell me more about cosmetology school!
A: Haha! I went and graduated right after high school – LOVED it. I worked at a salon for a couple years after and it was great and I learned a lot. My blog/etsy shop (no longer have) at the time started growing during that time and I ended up focusing more on that and here we are! That was almost 10 years ago that I stopped hair to do this stuff full time, CRAZY. But I keep my license up and do my family and friend’s hair still. Though I don’t do my own – I go somewhere 😉
Q: Good style for thin hair without extensions?!
A: Basically every style I show you without extensions 😉 HA! Mainly because I have thinnnn hair as well. Curls are great because they add volume, same with throwing it up and braids because you can make it look thicker!
Q: Do you have a tutorial on the extensions you use?
A: Yes! Tons on IGTV 😉
Q: Thoughts on Monat products?
A: I haven’t used many, but I’ve tried their blow dry serum (?) I think it’s serum, it’s been a couple years, but it was good! Isn’t my favorite, but it wasn’t bad!
Alright I’m going to stop there before this turns into like a 5,000 word blog post. 😉 HA! If you have more questions, ask em’ in the comments below and I’m happy to answer as I see them!
