I’ve been working on getting this post up for literally like a month, but life keeps happening, I keep finding new things to share and well, here we are. It’s finally happening. We are doing things a little different this summer and I’m actually really excited about it. Marcus is taking the summer off (which hasn’t happened since he started teaching) and we have ZERO classes, activities, anything planned for Blake. She’s taking the summer off too. We did sign her up for one small little like 2 day camp and she wants to do dance, but that’s it. So I’ve got at home activities lined up, a long honey do list for M and I to do before baby boy gets here + then of course all the fun summer toys. So I thought I’d round up some favorites and what exactly we “do have planned” for this chill summer.
First, favorite summer toys – I am just going to link a few of the items we’ve purchased throughout the years and love!
- Glitter Sidewalk Chalk – we’ve had this forever (and it’s actually lasted) and Blake is obsessed with it because well, glitter.
- Water balloons – this is a thing this year + she’s obsessed. They actually have a similar pack to this one I linked at Costco, but this one is cheaper!
- Grapefruit pool – we were due for a new backyard pool, so we grabbed this one and it’s so cute!
- Crazy Sprinkler – this was actually a birthday present for Blake last year and it’s still a hit, she’s probably played in it 10 times so far this month.
Second, let’s talk activities.
We are making a goal to get Blake reading this summer – she’s already doing pretty dang well and can get smaller words like “sam”, “and”, etc. you know – the beginner words. But she’s been asking and is really into it, so we are rolling with it. I love seeing her be so into school. I was NOT this way, so it’s fun to see. I asked her what she wanted to do this summer about a month ago, did she want to play a sport or do any activities, etc. and she said she wanted to do “school + dance” – haha! Sooo since school is out for summer 😉 We are doing our own “school” (aka: reading). Late with Kate on Instagram recommended this little kit, here, so we bought that to get things started and IT’S GAME CHANGING. So worth the money, promise! She’s learned a ton in just the two weeks we’ve had it.
We also have lots of puzzles + then of course, chalk and all the good things. And we’re not being totally lame this summer 😉 We are going on a trip and of course will do things like the waterpark, etc. – we are actually going to work on our summer bucket list today, so we will have all that mapped out soon and I promise to share!
