I honestly debated on even writing this post. Mainly just because resolutions and new year goals are kind of something I’m well, over. I just feel like every year it’s this big thing, I make big goals and I don’t know – it’s just something I like to do all year long, not just at the beginning of the year, especially as life changes. You don’t know what life is going to throw at you in the next year, so I like to write goals that I hope to achieve, but make changes to them throughout the year as I need to. That way I feel like I am flexible and not setting myself up for failure – like I have this “end goal” that I hope to achieve, but I also know that if life throws my a curve ball I am able to adjust it or stop, take a break and come back to re-focus once that little “hump” is over. But anyways, I do love writing goals out, so I kind of can’t help myself…so I’ll share some of what I have, but also with the mindset of change is OKAY.
SO THE GOALS:
- Read scriptures + pray every night and what I mean by this is like actually say prayers, not just while I am laying in bed where I fall asleep halfway through, but really make an effort.
- Spend money wisely. Now I won’t go into too much detail on this because well, finances are personal – but we’ve set some financial goals this year as a family so in turn, that means conscious spending. AKA: no more letting Target tell me what to buy 😉
- Mom first. This is one that I have worked on basically since Blake was born because being a working Mom and especially a work from home Mom, it’s challenging to turn off work and purely focus on just Mothering. I actually started something last year (that I only made it about two months in of) but I want to try it again. See what I mean, it’s not a failure – it’s adjusting 😉 Anyways, what I did was set up a time when my phone would go on “do not disturb” – I had it run for a couple of hours every afternoon. Which meant that I didn’t get email notifications on my phone, I wasn’t just automatically checking things and my phone literally locked down (except for important things like Marcus calling). This way I am giving my babies my undivided attention for those couple of hours each day and I think that’s so important, at least that I am trying.
- Don’t forget about me time. Honestly, in the past I have felt really guilty about taking me time and well, I’m kind of past that now. Me time is important and it’s necessary in order for me to show up as a better Mom and a better wife. So I am not going to feel guilty about staying on top of my nails or going to the gym every morning or whatever, I’m accepting that I deserve me time and that it’s okay, we’re all okay about it.
- Grace. This is kind of my “word” for the year – grace, as in showing myself grace in every aspect of my life. The last several months of 2019, I was really hard on myself in basically every aspect of my life and I want to put an effort towards fixing that. You know – the reminder that I am doing fine, I’m doing my best and I’m showing myself grace.
- Gratitude journal, I actually started doing this last year and I’m not perfect at it and my goal isn’t to be perfect at it, but it’s to do my best to remember to write down 1-2 things every night that I am grateful for. There’s just something about going to bed with a grateful heart that makes for a better sleep and a better start for the next day.
