This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Albertsons. All opinions are 100% mine.
YOU GUYS, I am so excited to share this recipe today. Mainly because I feel like I have finally perfected a recipe that can be made easily into a DF/GF version (for me) and it still tastes delicious. AND it’s for well, the best food ever – cinnamon rolls, which happens to be the perfect fall treat in my opinion. Seriously – I love fall weekends because we always make the most delicious breakfasts as a family and I just love baking with my littles…even if it’s also chaotic and super messy. I’m trying really hard to learn to love the mess and just let go.
ANYWAYS, so for the recipe I used as many Signature SELECT™ O Organics® and Open Nature® products and then everything else not available in those brands still from Albertsons Companies family of stores as well. Meaning you can grab everything in one place, you have options and while you’re at it you can grab one of their Signature SELECT Pumpkin Pies to pair it with for neighbor treats or you know…yourself too. 😉 No shame in my treat game y’all.
Let me dive into the recipe first for you because well, priorities. Then I will share some more details on everything you need to know “fall” wise at Albertsons this year.
CINNAMON ROLL RECIPE:
The best part about this, is I am going to put details where you need to substitute, etc. but y’all you don’t have to change measurements or anything for the GF/DF option as long as you use GF flour. So WIN. I made both options over the weekend and it was easy to do. My biggest tip for you is to make these the night before then let them rise all night (they’re way fluffier and softer this way), then bake in the morning.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Dough mixture:
-
4 cups of (GF if needed) flour
-
2 TSP of active dry yeast
-
⅓ cup warm water
-
⅔ cup (lactose free if needed) warm milk
-
⅓ cup (Vegan if needed) butter
-
Heaping spoonful of (DF if needed) sour cream
-
⅓ cup sugar
-
1 TSP salt
-
2 egg yolks
Filling:
-
1 ½ cup brown sugar
-
3 TBSP cinnamon
-
1 stick of (Vegan if needed) butter
Icing:
-
8 oz (DF if needed) cream cheese
-
½ cup (Vegan if needed) butter
-
3 Cups of powdered sugar
-
1 TSP vanilla extract
Directions:
Dough:
-
Start by mixing warm water, yeast + 1 ½ TSP of sugar together, then let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
-
Next add in your milk (make sure it’s warm, not hot), butter, sour cream + egg yolks. Then mix on low for 5 minutes.
-
Once the above is completely mixed, add in 2 cups of flour, sugar and salt, then mix.
-
Slowly add in the rest of the flour, one cup at a time. You might need a few TBSP more of flour, but add in by the TBSP and just enough to keep the dough from sticking to the side of the mixer.
-
Next cover it with a towel and set it either in the microwave or oven (NOT on but just a warm dark place for it to rise) for 1-2 hours.
-
After the dough has doubled in size roll it out to a long rectangle. Then start the filling process.
Filling:
For me I typically like to eyeball my filling, that’s just my preference and I can add a little more sugar if I want….but I did put measurements for those that like it that way. So melt your butter then spread it over the top of the rolled out dough. Next sprinkle your brown sugar over the butter, then top with cinnamon. After that slowly roll it up tightly then use dental floss or a knife to cut into 1” cinnamon rolls and place on a pan about 1” apart.
My recommendation for this like I mentioned above is to cover it again with a towel, then place on the counter until the next morning and they will get even bigger overnight.
Typically in the morning when I uncover them I like to sprinkle a thin layer of more brown sugar and cinnamon on the top, then I pop them in the oven for about 20 minutes or until slightly golden brown on the top at 350 degrees.
Icing:
The icing is EASY to make, literally just pop all of the ingredients in the mixer and mix on high until it’s nice and fluffy. Let the cinnamon rolls cool just a little, then spread it on the top and EAT! 🙂
